COLONY — Crest High’s Lancers were on the nines Tuesday night. That was not a good thing.

The Lancers scored nine points in each of the quarters and lost 48-36. Northeast High’s Vikings had double-figure scoring in three of the four quarters.

“Our effort was very good tonight, probably the hardest we’ve played since before Christmas,” said Travis Hermreck, Crest head coach.

“Northeast was a good team and showed us that execution and effort beats just effort.”

Northeast led 12-9 after one quarter and 21-18 at halftime. The Vikings outscored the Lancers 10-9 in the third period and 17-9 in the fourth.

The Vikings sank 15 of 22  free throws on the night. Crest was 6 of 10.

“We were not good offensively and I give most of the credit for that to their defense,” Hermreck said.

“We need to all get back on the same page, right now we’re going in a million different directions with the ball. Give us a few days and we will be alright.”

Crest dropped to 2-1 in Three Rivers League play and 7-4 overall. Northeast climbed into a tie atop the league standings with Uniontown at 3-0 and 9-3.

The Lancers were led by Kyle Hammond with 16 points.

Chase Cleland poured in 17 points for the Vikings. J.T. Richardson added 10.
