MORAN — Marmaton Valley Junior High’s girls and Crest Middle School boys claimed wins Tuesday as the Wildcats hosted the Lancer squads.
The Wildcat girls notched a 41-24 victory in A-team action. They pulled away from the Lady Lancers in the middle quarters, leading 23-12 at halftime and having a 12-6 scoring edge in the third period.
“Our press worked effectively the first half.” said Brenda Mills, MVJH head girls’ coach.
“We took it off in the second half and let our defense work hard in the back court. We rotated in off the bench to give our younger girls some experience in the second half.”
Mackenzie Tynon fired in 18 points for Marmaton Valley with Kyla Drake adding nine. Lindz McNeil and Ashlynn Pinkerton each had six points. Nalea Alexander had two.
Godderz led Crest with eight followed by Hammond with seven, Golden with six and Hartman with two. First names for Crest girls were not available.
In a two-quarter B-team game, Crest girls won 15-12. Trinitee Gutierrez had six points for Marmaton Valley followed by Alexander with three, Misty Storrer with two and Drake with one. Crest got five points from Godderez and four from Hammond.
Crest’s Lancers powered past the Wildcat boys, 38-18. The Lancers held a 21-10 halftime lead.
“Crest played aggressively on the defensive end and we did not respond too well until midway through the third quarter,” said Arlyn Briggs, MVJH head coach.
“We were plagued by fouls in the fourth quarter and had to back off defensively.”
Marmaton Valley was paced by Keagan Boyd with 12 points. Gage Adams and Michael Beggs each had three points.
Kellen Ramsey fired in 15 points for Crest with Hunter Frazell adding 10. Garrett Sipe scored eight followed by Evan Godderz with four and Brandon Brailler with one.
Crest won the B-team game also, 21-6. Jake Pinney scored 16 points and Dylan Young had five for the Lancers. Scoring two points for Maramton Valley were Tony Jefferis, Sheldon Andersen and Cody Wilson.
