HUMBOLDT — Four heat races, two B feature races then the main event had the modified class front and center Friday at Humboldt Speedway.
The USMTS (United States Modified Touring Series) Casey’s General Stores National Tour made another stop at the Speedway. There were 31 cars in the heat races and 24 drivers finished in the A feature race.
Ryan Gustin of Marshalltown, Iowa, got the bitter taste of his 2009 stop at Humboldt out of his mouth with a victory on the local dirt track. Gustin got past early race leader Dustin Boney two laps into the 40-lap race.
Jason Hughes, who won both USMTS races at Humboldt in March, drove through the field to make a challenge late. The third and final caution flag of the race came with two laps left.
Gustin was able to hold off Hughes down the stretch for the victory. Brian Bolin ran third and Johnny Bone Jr. in fourth. To round out the top five was Jason Krohn.
Dan Daniels led the hometown drivers in the modified feature. Dan Daniels was 14th while John Allen was 16th, Ryan Whitworth was 17th, Scott Daniels took 22nd, Paden Phillips finished 23rd and Rodney Sigg was 24th.
Ron Bolin won the B-Mod feature race. Dalton Kirk finished second followed by Levi McGowen, Jay Lamons Jr. and Jimmie Davis.
Capturing a feature race victory in factory stock was John Rosson. Colton Bunn ran a strong second with Doug Scism in third. Brandon Weide placed fourth and Patrick Kay rounded out the top five.
Jeremy Willard drove to a win in pure stock Friday night. Laura Ramey notched her second runner-up spot in as many weeks. Paul Long took third followed by Mike Aiello and Tony Morris.
This Friday, the Speedway has the Show Me Series late models coming in for a run on the local dirt track. The regular four classes will run also.
Admission this week will be $15 for adults and  $5 for children. Pit passes are $30.
Coming on June 18 is the second annual Old Timer’s Reunion at the Speedway plus the vintage cars.
