UNIONTOWN — A strong start put Uniontown High’s Eagle girls on the path to a 57-29 win at home Tuesday. The Eagles defeated Altoona-Midway High’s Jets in Three Rivers League play.
The Eagle boys rallied from a 33-30 deficit to capture a 46-42 victory over Altoona-Midway. Uniontown outscored Altoona-Midway 16-9 in the fourth quarter to erase the three-point Jet lead.
“Taylor Shook played her best game of the year. Hope Jurgensen and Jennie Ulrey both stepped up to fill in for Bre’s limited minutes,” said Ken Holt, Eagle girls’ head coach.
Breanna Esslinger, who was hampered by the illness, still scored 12 points — all from threes — for the Eagles. Shook had seven points, two assists, and three rebounds.
The Eagles (7-8) shot 58 percent, 22 of 38 from the field  and hit six three-point field goals.
Jurgensen paced Uniontown with 13 points along with four assists and three steals. Ulrey had 10 points and seven rebounds.
Uniontown’s girls opened with a 16-9 run and led 28-16 at halftime.  The Eagles delivered the knockout punch, 20-6, in the third quarter.
