LE ROY — Two touchdowns by Marais Des Cygnes Valley High’s Trojans in the final six minutes of the third quarter were enough to separate themselves from host Southern Coffey County High’s Titans Friday night.
The Trojans led 16-2 at halftime but it was 16-10 midway through the third period. The Trojans added a touchdown with 7:55 left in the game on their way to a 36-18 win over the Titans.
The Titans scored in the second quarter on a safety credited to Wes Callahan and Scott Fischer.
They were able to close the gap to just a touchdown, six points, when Charlie Patterson scored from two yards out then Colin Kraft caught a two-point conversion pass from Fischer.
That made it 16-10 with 8:49 left in the third quarter. Two minutes later, the Trojans scored taking full control.
Southern Coffey County got its final touchdown with 1:29 left in the contest. Aaron Ludolph caught a 65-yard touchdown pass from Kraft. Fischer hauled in the two-point conversion pass.
The loss dropped the Titans to 0-1 in Eight-Man I, District 3 play. They are 2-3 overall.
Southern Coffey County goes to Lebo this Friday in district action.
Dylan Wonser led the Titans in rushing against the Trojans with 35 yards on 12 carries. Kraft had 25 yards on seven carries plus was 10 of 27 passing for 145 yards.
Turner Anderson had 21 yards on five carries and Callahan had 20 yards on six carries. Patterson had 18 yards on seven carries.
Ludolph caught five passes for 93 yards and Scott Fischer had four catches for 56 yards.
Kraft led the defensive charge by the Titans with eight solo tackles and seven assisted tackles and an interception. Callahan had three solo stops and 13 assisted tackles. Ludolph had three quarterback sacks. Fischer had 12 assisted tackles and two unassisted. Wonser recovered a fumble.
