LE ROY — Madison High’s Bulldog basketball teams put a bit of damper on Southern Coffey County homecoming celebration Friday night when they swept the double header on the road. On the boys side, Madison beat the Titans 59-42 and on the girls, the Lady Titans fell 48-42.
The boys’ game was close throughout but the Titan offense struggled in the fourth period. The Bulldogs owned a 20-6 scoing edge for the win.
The girls’ matchup played out much the same way. Battling back and forth during the first three periods of play, the Lady Titans were poised to take the lead in the fourth as the teams opened the final period of play tied at 35. But again, Madison managed to outscore its opponent in the closing minutes, this time 13-7.
Lady Titan head coach Jeff True said too many turnovers and too few rebounds led to the loss.
In the boys game, leading scorers were Madison’s Kole Schankie with 17 points and teammate Tanner Bybee with 16. The Titan offense was led by Aaron True and Dusty Watts with 12 points each.
For the girls, leading scorers were Lady Titan Ashton Isch with a career- and game-high 26 points — the guard was 11 of 11 at the free-throw line — and Bulldog Cassidy Barnard with 14.
