WAVERLY — Southern Coffey County High’s girls gave it a whirl, but could not keep up with powerful Marais des Cygnes Valley Saturday night.
The Lady Titans dropped a 54-27 decision in the Class 1A-I substate championship game.
“I was pleased with the girls’ effort,” SCC head coach Jeff True said. “They battled until the end. We just ran into a very good team.”
The Lady Titans fell behind 16-2 after one period and could not make up the gap. Marais des Cygnes led 30-12 at halftime and 48-20 after three.
Breanna Isch ended her high school career with 11 points and a career-high 18 rebounds to lead the Lady Titans. Chenae Newkirk added six rebounds and three assists. Amanda Sherwood had five boards.
Newkirk, Isch, Sherwood and Miranda Alumbaugh ended their careers with the loss.
ELSEWHERE, The SCC boys dropped a 65-42 decision to top seed Marais des Cygnes Valley in their 1A-I substate title game.
