A 17-2 Cowley run broke open what had been a nip-and-tuck affair Wednesday.

The visiting Tigers took that lead over the Allen Community College women and never looked back in a 90-45 defeat for the Red Devils, in their penultimate home game of the season.

Allen travels to Butler Saturday before returning home Monday for Sophomore Night against Cloud County.

But with only one sophomore on the team, the Red Devils have taken their lumps on the hardwood this season.

Wednesday was no different. Cowley’s pressure defense limited Allen (1-17) to 29% shooting on the night.

Allen’s Adji Mbaye, Hallie Reed and Chloe Burns connected early for the Red Devils, who trailed 9-8 headed into the waning moments of the first quarter.

But the Tigers came back strong, ending the period with a 26-10 lead. Mbaye scored inside and Reed hit a 3-pointer to keep Allen close in the second quarter, but the Tigers ended the half on a 9-3 run to lead, 47-20.

Madisyn Holloway and Reed connected from 3-point range in the third quarter, before another Cowley run pushed the gap to 44 points by the end of the period.

Both teams relied almost exclusively on reserves down the stretch.

Addison Towe scored twice in the period to wind up with a team-high nine points, while Mbaye hit 3 of 4 free throws in the quarter and finished with eight points, five rebounds and three assists. Yasmine Garcia pulled in five rebounds as well. Reed, Holloway and Melody Wilfong all had six points. Wilfong also had two blocks.

Five Cowley players finished in double figures, led by Seanna Boltz with 14.
