Anything that could go wrong did for Allen County Community College’s Red Devils at home Saturday night.

Seth Walden hitting 6 of 9 from three-point range was the highlight of Saturday’s Jayhawk Eastern Division game against Cowley County Community College’s Tigers. The Tigers roared past the Red Devils 84-63.

“We didn’t play defense. Tonight our players played like each one was out for himself. Until we play as a team this is going to be the result,” said Anwar Perry, ACCC men’s head coach.

“When our two best offensive players — Canon Fields and Terrell Shears — won’t play defense, nobody plays defense.”

Allen County’s loss dropped the Red Devils to 6-10 in conference and 12-16 overall. They are 5-9 in Region VI, Division I play.

The Red Devils travel to Highland Wednesday. They end the regular season at home this coming Saturday against Johnson County. That home game is at 2 p.m. because ACCC is hosting a Kansas Class 1A, Division II Substate Tournament Saturday evening.

A tip-in by Shears tied the game at 2-2 with 16:50 to play in the first half. The Tigers went on a 13-1 run and the Red Devils never fought back. Midway through the half, Cowley was up 24-8.
