Three Rivers League baseball players from Crest, Marmaton Valley and Yates Center earned Kansas Association of Baseball Coaches All-State and All-League honors.

The group of players are highlighted by Crest’s four athletes on the KABC All-State teams and four more on the Three Rivers League First Team. Marmaton Valley had one player on each of the Three Rivers League First and Second Teams along with Yates Center.

The Lancers were ranked second in the state in the latest KABC baseball rankings of 2023 after impressing with an overall record of 20-1. Their lone loss came in the Class 1A regional championship game to Kansas City Christian.

Crest was led by a core group of seniors which had an overall record of 67-5 since their freshman year and included All-State First Team pitcher Trevor Church. He will play in the All-State game in Manhattan on Wednesday, June 7.

Church was nothing short of brilliant on the mound. He didn’t give up an earned run all season and allowed only one unearned run in an 11-1 victory at Southeast on May 1.

“Every time he went to the mound we knew he’d keep it scoreless or give us a chance to win. He’s a tremendous asset to have knowing when he goes out he’ll keep us in the game,” Crest head coach Roland Weir said. “Trevor’s been a Second Team All-State pitcher the past two years and he finally got his recognition for First Team.”

The left-handed pitcher went for an overall record of 9-0 while registering 91 strikeouts and surrendering 13 hits across 141 at bats. Church was also a unanimous selection on the Three Rivers League First Team.

Junior outfielder Rogan Weir was named to the KABC All-State First Team as well as the Three Rivers League First Team.

Weir’s biggest impact was at the plate where he slashed a .549 batting average and had a team-high 28 hits in 51 at bats. He also drove in a team-high 31 runs and was a reliable hitter in the five hole all season.

“Rogan was a real consistent hitter. He’s improved every year and he’s a confident hitter, an awesome utility player and there’s not a position where I can’t play him,” said Weir. “The future is bright for him, he still has another year and hopefully he can play at the next level.”

Senior pitcher and middle infielder Stetson Setter was tabbed to the KABC All-State Second Team and Three Rivers League First Team.

Setter was dominant on the mound, at the plate and at shortstop. On the mound, Setter went 6-0 with a 0.59 ERA and allowed only three runs across 23.2 innings pitched.

At the plate, the senior had a .500 batting average and had a team-high four home runs.

“He (Setter) was another one that when he was on the mound the game was going to be close,” said Weir. “As far as middle infield, he’s got a good arm, good range and provided lots of leadership for the guys in the field.”
