HUMBOLDT — Friday night was a historic one for 13-year-old Andy Bryant at Humboldt Speedway.
Bryant, a B-Mod prodigy from Fort Scott, recorded his first feature win anywhere in Friday’s Ray’s Metal Depot B-Mod feature.
The victory coincided with the speedway’s annual Fan Appreciation Night, in which fans were granted admission free of charge, provided they donate either a non-perishable food item or cash donation to the Humboldt Ministerial Alliance Food Bank.
On Humboldt’s high-banked surface, where three-wide racing is common, Bryant held off the cream of the crop; with Jeremy Chambers second, Brad Jarman third, Tim VanGotten fourth and Jimmie Davis fifth.
In the USRA/McCarthy Auto Group Modified A feature, it was John Allen once again victorious, although the defending points champ had to track down and pass Ryan McAninch in order to clinch the win. Ever-resilient Jess Folk Jr., who has had a troubled season, took third. Travis Smith and Scott Daniels rounded out the top five.
J.T. Thurman challenged Derrek Wilson’s supremacy in the Whitworth Construction Pure Stock division, but his challenge fell just short, losing to Thurman by less than a car length. Matthew Kay was third, Brad Carroll fourth and Wayne Johnson fifth.
Scott Stuart returned following a lengthy absence in the Factory Stock feature to finish second to Jeremy Wilson, Stuart’s first race of the season at Humboldt in which he did not win. Tyler James scored a close third, with David Matlock fourth and Clint Drake fifth.
The stands were full, the place was rockin’, and race fans saw some of the best action of the season.
