Teams wrap up regular season

Five area high school volleyball teams wrapped up regular season play Tuesday.
Humboldt High’s Lady Cubs were at Burlington in Tri-Valley League play.
The Lady Cubs lost to Fredonia 25-11, 25-14 and to host Burlington 25-10, 25-14.
“We did not play our best volleyball. We need to put it behind us and gear up for substate on Saturday,” said Stephanie Splechter, Humboldt head coach.
Humboldt (8-19) finished fifth in the TVL at 2-5.
Against Fredonia, Melissa Davidson had two kills and three blocks for Humboldt. Darrah Tinkler had two kills. Amanda Maxton put up five set assists and Taylyn Wells came up with four digs.
In the  Burlington match, Hannah McCall served three aces and had three digs.
Also in Tri-Valley action Tuesday, Yates Center hosted Neodesha and Eureka. No report was received on the matches from Yates Center.
The Register found the match scores as Eureka won two to go undefeated (7-0) for the TVL championship. Eureka (30-6) beat Neodesha 25-13, 20-25, 25-17 and downed Yates Center 25-15, 25-8.
Neodesha beat Yates Center 25-19, 25-8. Yates Center finished 0-7 in TVL play and 5-23 overall.

UNIONTOWN HIGH’S Eagles and Marmaton Valley High’s Wildcats played their final Three Rivers League matches at Pleasanton Tuesday. The Eagles won two matches to finish second in the league to Northeast-Arma.
Uniontown beat Pleasanton 25-8, 25-14 led by Jessie Camac with 16 service points, which included seven aces. She also had two kills at the net.
Jacy Ermel had six kills and Hayden Rathbun downed four kills. Jessica Harrison downed three kills. Tayler Shook had 16 set assists and Tiffany Poyner had 19 digs.
“This was a nice way to finish out regular-season play. We rebounded from Saturday, making some of the adjustments we needed to make,” said Jackie Hall, Uniontown head coach.
“Our coverages are improving and we really tried to execute our game of pass, set, hit.”
The Eagles defeated Marmaton Valley 25-10, 25-13. Ermel served for eight points and had nine kills. Camac and Rathbun each had four kills. Shook had 20 set assists and Poyner had 20 digs.
“We’re going to be doing a lot of team-building exercises the next couple of days to get ready for substate,” said Lindsay Ermel, Marmaton Valley head coach.
Crest High’s Lady Lancers also played in Three Rivers League matches against St. Paul and host Oswego Tuesday. The Register did not receive a report.

TEAMS head to substate tournaments Saturday. Uniontown, ranked fifth in Class 3A, plays in the 3A substate at Northeast High in Arma.
Humboldt, Marmaton Valley and Yates Center are in the Class 2A substate tournament hosted by Yates Center High.
Crest and Southern Coffey County are in a Class 1A substate at St. Paul.
The winning teams at each substate tournament advance to the respective state tournaments, Oct. 29-30.
