Kendra Taiclet made her mark on Iola High girls’ basketball the past four years. The IHS senior hopes to do the same with Allen Community College basketball the next two years.

Taiclet signed a letter of intent Monday to play Red Devil women’s basketball.

“This is a good fit for me,” said Taiclet after the signing.

ACC head coach Mark James was all smiles.

“We’re excited to have Kendra coming into our program. We’ve been watching her all year and really believe her game blends well with the style played in the Jayhawk Conference,” James said.

“Kendra adds a little more athleticism at the small forward for us. Her versatility to play almost any spot is important. She can guard anyone we need her to guard.”

Both IHS head girls’ basketball coach Becky Carlson and IHS head volleyball coach Jodi Grover have said of Taiclet — “she can jump out of the gym.” Taiclet has a great vertical leaping ability which helped her lead the Fillies in rebounding.

Taiclet, a 5-9 forward, was Iola’s leading scorer this season with 247 points and claimed 179 boards to top the team’s rebounding list.

She received All-Southeast Kansas League second-team honors for the second consecutive year. Taiclet also earned Kansas Class 4A honorable mention this season.

Taiclet is 20th in career scoring with 582 points and 18th on the career rebounding list with 340 rebounds. Her 247 points put her at 32 on the single-season scoring list and, again, 18th on the season rebounding list.

Taiclet remains No. 1 on the career three-point field goal percentage list at 43 percent, 40 of 93.

“I believe my rebounding ability along with a good work ethic are things I can contribute to the Allen team,” Taiclet said. “Also my ability to get to the basket.”

Taiclet dished out 42 assists and made 33 steals on the year. She also blocked 14 shots. She went 74 of 237, 31 percent, from the field and netted 15 of 56 three-point attempts at 27 percent. Taiclet went 58 of 99 from the free-throw line for 58.5 percent.

Taiclet had five double-double games this season. Taiclet had six games in which she pulled down double digit rebounds. Her high was 15 against Coffeyville.

Taiclet remains No. 1 on Fillies’ career three-point field goal percentage list at 43 percent, 40 of 93.
