Sullivan earns SEK wrestling honors

Marcus Sullivan has wrestled for only two years. The Iola High junior was a member of the first-ever IHS wrestling team in 2008-2009.
In late February, Sullivan was Iola’s first state tournament qualifers. And Monday night, Sullivan became the first Iola High wrestler to receive Southeast Kansas League honors.
Sullivan received honorable mention at 160 pounds from the SEK coaches. Two-time Class 4A state champion John Hambleton of Labette County was All-SEK first team at 160 pounds.
Sullivan posted the best overall varsity rec-ord for Iola in 2009-2010. He finished 31-9 overall with a fourth-place finish in the Kansas Class 4A Regional Tournament and a berth in the 2010 Kansas Class 4A State Wrestling Tournament.
The SEK coaches select a first team and honorable for the 14 weight classes. The SEK wrestling standings are based on team dual results. Iola was 2-6 in SEK dual meets and 2-9 overall in duals.
