COLONY — King for a night.
Zach Stinnett was truly king of courts to the Crest High faithful Friday night. Stinnett, who was crowned winter homecoming king, put the final jewel in the crown with a 17-foot, buzzer-beating shot. Crest High’s Lancers edged out the ninth-ranked Kansas Class 2A Oswego High Indians, 54-52.
“It was a great game. We jumped out to an early lead, even had a 19-point advantage at one time in the first half,” said Travis Hermreck, Crest High head coach.
Crest led 37-22 at halftime.
“Then Oswego caught fire in the second half. They were 7 of 13 from behind the three-point line in the second half.”
Hermreck said the Indians tied up the game with five minutes remaining to play. “Then it was a see-saw contest from there.”
Stinnett, had 10 points and six rebounds in the game. Kristen Golden was crowned homecoming queen.
Bryan Newton recorded his fifth straight double-double with 21 points and 12 rebounds. He also had three steals for the Lancers.

Speaking of three-pointers, Oswego was 9 of 25 behind the arc. Damon Trotnic drained four on his way to 16 points.
The Indians got 12 points from Matthew Dickinson.
The Lancers shot 53 percent, 24 of 45, from the field. The Indians were 20 of 52, for 38 percent.
Crest held a 27 to 25 rebounding edge.
“It was a big win for us. It puts us at 4-0 in Three Rivers League and Oswego is a very quality team,” Hermreck said. Crest is 13-3 overall.
Crest won the junior varsity game 38-31. Jayden Bowen scored 14 points and Jesse Boone had 10.
Crest finishes the season next week with three games — at St. Paul Tuesday, hosting Northern Heights Thursday and at Uniontown Friday. A game postponed with Pleasanton won’t be made up because of conflicts.
