High School Softball:
Two area athletes found their way to honorable mention status for 2-1A softball when the all-state baseball and softball leagues announced their honors today.
Marmaton Valley junior Karle Stephens and Yates Center sophomore Madelynn Collins each were a force throughout the Three Rivers League last season, making their impact known at the plate and on the mound.
Collins led the Lady Cats in hitting with a .534 average with 31 hits and 29 RBIs. She was also one of her team’s top pitchers and ended the year with a 2.56 ERA.
Stephens finished the year with a .412 average at the plate, collecting 21 hits and a team-high 18 RBIs.
Out of the 21 hits, a team-high 8 were for extra bases including one home run.
Stephens ended the season with an 8-8 record on the mound with a 4.11 ERA and 106 strikeouts. Stephens pitched 95.1 out of the teams 115 total innings played this season.
Both players will return to lead their teams in the 2019 softball season.
