Iola High has four athletes who qualified for Friday and Saturday’s 2012 Kansas State High School All-Class Track and Field Championships at Wichita State University’s Cessna Stadium.
From Iola High and six area high schools — Humboldt, Marmaton Valley, Uniontown, Crest, Yates Center and Southern Coffey County — 25 athletes qualified to compete in the two-day event. There are 25 events to be contested by area athletes in Class 4A, 3A, 2A and 1A competitions. Those schools that have qualifying relay teams will have a couple of alternate athletes who will accompany the teams.
Remember the changes that have been made in the overall schedule for the state meet. The 3200-meter run finals are on Friday morning and evening instead of Saturday morning. This year classes 4A, 5A and 6A run in the morning and classes 1A, 2A, 3A run in that order in the evening.
Also, the 100-meter dash preliminaries for all six classes are Saturday morning starting at 8:30.
On Friday this year the larger classes — 4A, 5A, 6A — run preliminaries in the morning session starting at 9 o’clock, following the conclusion of the 3200-meter races, which start at 7:45.
The smaller classes — 1A, 2A, 3A — run preliminaries Friday starting at 2 p.m., followed by the 3200-meter races.
On Saturday about 2 p.m., the Kansas State High School Activities Association Hall of Fame induction ceremony will take place. Races resume at 3 p.m.
