In addition to the Iola High cross country team, several other area high schools sent runners to the state cross country meets as well.
Yates Center sent three of its varsity boys runners to the 2A race in Wamego.
Hadley Splechter was the Wildcats’ leading runner, finishing the meet in eighth place with a time of 17:34.
Brett Holloway placed 10th overall with a time of 17:40. Colin Bedell was the last of the Yates Center runners to cross the finish line. He came in 43rd with a time of 18:43.
Finally, Humboldt High qualified to send its entire varsity boys team to Lawrence for the 3A state meet.
The Cubs finished ninth out of 12 teams with a team score of 238.
Joe Kline, who recorded a time of 17:56, led Humboldt with a 21st-place finish. Tanner Orth followed with a time of 18:04 and a 25th-place finish.
Josh Vanatta (85th, 20:13), Miah Scheimann (91st, 20:35), Wyatt Wehlage (93rd, 20:42), Wyatt Seufert (96th, 20:51) and Caleb Coronado (101st, 21:30) rounded out the Cubs’ scoring runners from the race Saturday.
Marmaton Valley’s Shelby Yoho was the school’s lone representative in the 1A race Saturday in Wamego.
The sophomore finished in 18th place with a time of 22:41.
