GARNETT — Iola High School has a pair of league wrestling champions.
The Mustangs’ TJ Taylor and Trent Jones won the 113- and 145-pound divisions, respectively, at Thursday’s Pioneer League Championships.
Taylor pinned both of his opponents, winning by fall over Koy Randell of Wellsville in 2 minutes, 34 seconds, in the semifinal; and pinning Carter Sommer of Anderson County in 44 seconds in the championship match.
Meanwhile, Jones continued his memorable season with two pins in the league competition. He pinned Collin Burk of Burlington in 3:44 in the semifinal and Lane Freeman of Anderson County in 2:58 in the championship.
Three other Mustang grapplers finished in the top three in their respective weight classes.
Gary Lower won his semifinal, but fell in the title match to take second in the 220-pound class.
Landen Nading and Damiean Dryden took third in the 120- and 138-pound divisions, respectively.
