ST. PAUL — Marmaton Valley High’s Wildcat girls and boys showed the rust of not playing or even practicing for a week because of snow days.
Playing on the road Thursday night, the Wildcat girls lost 57-20 to St. Paul High’s Indians. The Indians were powered by a 34-point performance by Morgan Westhoff.
“No practices since last Tuesday and it sure showed. We were sluggish all night,” said Kent Houk, MVHS girls’ head coach.
For the Wildcat boys, they were able to stay with the Indians for the first half, trailing by just five points.
“Then we came out dead in the second half,” Denny Lasley, MVHS boys’ head coach said after his Wildcats lost 62-39. “But our guys never gave up the hustle.”

The Wildcat teams are on the road next week playing three games — at Altoona-Midway Monday, at Chetopa Tuesday and at Pleasanton Friday.
