Spring sports openers delayed

Iola High School's baseball, softball and tennis seasons all saw their openers delayed by rainy weather. The season now is set to begin for baseball and softball on Friday. Tennis will have three events next week.

Iola High will get to kick off its spring sports season, sooner or later.

Rainy weather washed out Tuesday’s season-openers for the IHS baseball and softball squads in Independence, the second straight opener pushed back due to weather.

The Mustang tennis team saw its first event of the season postponed on March 10.

Nevertheless, the schedule is certain to hit high gear for Iola and all other area schools within the next week.

Iola’s baseball and softball teams are slated to host Chanute on Friday, while the JV baseball team hosts Burlington Monday. The baseball and softball squads then travel to Burlington Tuesday and Chanute next Friday.

The IHS track team opens March 31 at Paola, while the Mustang tennis team is at Independence Tuesday, Pittsburg on March 31 and Neodesha April 2.

The Mustang JV golf team tees off on April 5 at Allen County Country Club. The varsity squad is at Independence April 7.

Humboldt’s baseball and softball teams open the season Monday at home vs. Neodesha. The Cub golf team is at Caney Monday. Humboldt’s track team opens the year April 1 at Lyndon.

Marmaton Valley’s baseball and softball teams host Southeast Monday. The Wildcat track team is at Uniontown Tuesday.

Crest’s ball teams open Monday at home vs. Chetopa. The Lancer thinclads will join the fun at Uniontown Tuesday.

Yates Center hosts St. Paul on Monday to open baseball and softball.
