Postseason is right around the corner for area high school spring sports.
Boys’ tennis is next week followed by golf on May 14. Baseball and softball regionals are slated for May 14-15. Then come the track regionals on May 18.
Qualifiers from the regional action advance to the respective state tournaments.
Tennis
Iola High’s Mustangs go just 20 miles south to the Kansas Class 4A Tennis Regional. The regional tournament is Thursday and Friday at Chanute High School’s tennis courts.
Action begins Thursday at 9 a.m. and matches will be played through quarterfinals. The regional resumes at 10 a.m. Friday. The top six singles and top six doubles teams advance to the Kansas Class 4A State Tennis Tournament, May 11-12, at Topeka’s Kossover Tennis Facility.
Joining Iola and Chanute at the 4A regional tennis tournament are Labette County, Coffeyville, Columbus, Fort Scott, Independence, Ottawa, Parsons and Pittsburg.
Golf
Iola High’s Mustangs have been assigned to the Kansas Class 4A Golf Regional at Chanute’s Quarry Stone Country Club, May 14. Tee off time is 9:30 a.m.
The top two teams plus the next five lowest individual scores that are not members of a qualifying team go on to the Kansas Class 4A State Golf Tournament. The state tournament is May 21 at Dub’s Dread Golf Club in Kansas City, Kan., hosted by Piper High School.
In the 4A regional with Iola and Chanute are Labette County, Augusta, Baxter Springs, Coffeyville, Columbus, El Dorado, Independence and Parsons.
Humboldt High’s Cubs are in the Kansas Class 3A Golf Regional tournament at Erie’s Prairie Ridge Golf Course. Erie High is hosting it and other teams in the tournament are Caney Valley, Fredonia, Frontenac, Galena, Neodesha, Pittsburg-St. Mary’s Colgan and Riverton.

Marmaton Valley High’s Wildcats and the Uniontown High Eagles are going to the Kansas Class 2A Golf Regional tournament hosted by Pleasanton High at Deer Trace Golf Course at Linn Valley Lake. Other teams at the regional are Pleasanton, Burlingame, Immaculata, Lyndon, Jayhawk-Linn, Oswego, Kansas City Christian, Sedan, Maranatha Academy.
In Class 2A, it is the top three teams plus the next five lowest individual scores that are not members of a qualifying team advance to the state tournament. The Kansas Class 2A State Golf Tournament is May 21 at Spring Creek Golf Course in Seneca.
