Mother Nature’s wrath is certain to take a bite out of the spring sports calendar this week.
The weekend storm deposited several inches of snow on ball fields, tennis courts, golf courses and track and field arenas in Iola and elsewhere in the area.
Its remnants will affect the schools, nearly all of which were slated to begin play at some point this week.
As of this morning, only one of the events had been canceled or postponed — today’s junior varsity softball and baseball games at Iola’s Riverside Park — but that may be a formality in some cases.
Martin Bambick, Iola High School’s athletics director, was meeting with area schools to determine what schedule changes were imminent.
Four area schools — Humboldt, Marmaton Valley, Yates Center and Crest — called off school altogether today.
