Marmaton Valley softball suffers sweep from Oswego
The Lady Wildcats struggled at home on Tuesday versus Oswego. The Wildcats lost 25-7 in game one and 10-5 in game two. Marmaton Valley moved to 6-8 overall. Karlie Stephens earned the loss in game one, allowing 25 runs (nine earned) on 21 hits and a walk with two strikeouts. Kayla Ard and Stephens each recorded two hits in the game. Ard earned the loss in game two allowing 10 runs (two earned) on five hits and seven walks. She struck out seven. The Wildcats committed 17 errors between the two games. Shaylee Woods led the way offensively in game two with two hits and two RBIs. Marmaton Valley will play Jayhawk-Linn on Monday.
Iola JV track competes at Fort Scott
For a change of pace on Tuesday, the Mustangs and Fillies had beautiful weather to compete at a junior varsity track meet in Fort Scott.
The Iola girls finished third and the boys finished 10th.
Melany Dean finished first in the long jump with a distance of 143 and second in both the 100 (13.75, a personal best) and the 200 (29.34, also a personal best).
Hannah Gardner finished second in the 400 meters with a personal best time of 1:08.6.
Taelyn Maley finished third in the 800 with a personal best time of 2:55.1 and Ella Taylor finished third in the triple jump (285.5) and the pole vault (66).
The 4×800-meter relay team of Maley, Averie Sharon and Lori and Audrey Coltrane finished second with a personal best time of 12.33 and the 4×400 team of Gardner, Dean, Marta Iglesias-Gonzalez and Addison Mallette finished third with a time of 4:51.96.
FOR THE BOYS,
Matt Karr finished second in the discus with a throw of 1066 which was a personal record and third in the shot put with a throw of 382.5.
The varsity Mustangs and Fillies will be back in action today at Osawatomie.
