Special Olympics athletes compete

A small group of Allen County Special Olympics athletes competed at a track meet in Pittsburg recently. They'll be at a bowling competition in Pittsburg in late July.

PITTSBURG — The Allen County Special Olympics adult team attended track and field events May 26 hosted by Pittsburg State University.

Organizers noted participation was lower than a typical meet as life from the COVID-19 pandemic slowly gets back to normal, coach Joy Riebel said.

Tina Craft took first in the 25-meter assisted walk and second in the tennis ball throw.

Ty Johnson finished second in the tennis ball throw, first in the 200-meter walk and second in the 100-meter walk.

Dakota Knowles took first in the 25-meter assisted wheelchair race and third in the tennis ball throw.

Casey Riebel finished second in the 25-meter race walk and second in the softball throw.

Bowling events fill the calendar in June and July, including the Southeast Regions games at Holiday Lanes in Pittsburg July 27-28.
