Spears wins boys’ JV race at league meet

PARSONS — Iola High freshman Jeremy Spears won the Southeast Kansas League junior varsity boys’ race at Thursday’scross country meet at Big Hill Reservoir.
Spears ran the 5K race in 20 minutes, 51 seconds. Michael Wilson took the sixth-place medal in 21:37. Garrett Catron was 11th in 22:21.
Others placing for the Mustangs were: 16. Levi Baker, 23:08; 17. Arion Kunkler, 23:17; 19. Jason Tidd, 23:22; 21. Josh Klubek, 23:28; 22. Matthew Cunningham, 23:29; 28. Drew Smith, 24:15; 40. Cody Conner, 27:35.
The Iola boys finished second as a team to Chanute, which scored 51 points. The Mustangs had 57 points.
Carrie Mock was the lone girl to run the junior varsity race for the Fillies. Mock earned the 10th-place medal in the 4K race. She ran it in 24:44.
Chanute was the only school to field a full girls’ junior varsity team.
