MELVERN — Southern Coffey County High’s girls overcame a pesky case of turnover-itis with solid shooting from the field and the free throw line Friday.
The Lady Titans shot 50 percent from the floor and drained 16 of 18 charities en route to a 53-33 win over host Maras Des Cygnes Valley.
The contest was the third in four days for the Lady Titans, who made up two games because of earlier postponements. They upped their mark to 71 in Lyon County League play and 9-1 overall.
Southern Coffey County was never threatened, leading 14-7 after one period and 24-11 at the break.. They doubled up the Trojans, 38-19, after three quarters.
Still, Lady Titan head coach Jeff True saw plenty of room for improvement.
“We had way too many careless turnovers (19) in this game,” True said. “We shot the ball well (17 of 34) but lost out on 19 opportunities because of the turnovers.”
Laurie Ohl led the way with 14 points, while Shelby Birk added 12 points. Kristen Garland had seven rebounds and five assists. Kaitlin Meyer had eight points, three steals and four assists. Kristin Stephens also scored eight points.
Destiny Lemmon and Kylie Vanderpool each scored 10 points to lead Marais Des Cygnes Valley.
The Lady Titan junior varsity also was victorious 32-28, led by Sarah Webb’s 14 points.
The Southern Coffey County High boys also posted a LCL win Friday night. The Titans beat the Trojans 58-35 to improve to 3-5 in league play and 4-6 overall.
No report to the Register was made on the boys’ game.
