Southern Coffey County downs Crest

“I was proud of how the girls pulled together and competed. A win would have obviously been nice, but it was an excellent opportunity for us to compete and continue to prepare for substate,” Crest head coach Abigail Hermreck said.

LE ROY — The Crest High School junior varsity and varsity volleyball teams stumbled at Southern Coffey County on Thursday in hard-fought sets.

The junior varsity Lady Lancers (8-8) ended their season with an even .500-record of 8-8. Some of the standouts this season included Andie Burnett, Kaylee Allen, Allison Weatherman, Aylee Beckmon, Kaelin Nilges, McKenna Powell and Aubree Allen.

“The girls competed and worked hard,” said Crest head coach Abigail Hermreck.

The varsity Crest squad slipped to Southern Coffey, 25-7, 25-20 and 25-17.

Lady Lancer McKenna Hammond registered four kills, 16 digs and a lone block.

“We came out playing tight and could not get our offense going. Passing was not going well. Southern Coffey was composed and on the attack. We settled in and played more relaxed in the second and third sets,” said Hermreck.

Kayla Hermreck led the attack with eight kills, two blocks, eight assists, and went 12-for-13 from the serving line. She also had two aces and eight digs. Kinley Edgerton made three kills, seven assists, went five-for-six from the serving line and knocked eight digs.

Crest’s Karlee Boots led defensively with 19 digs while also making three kills and one assist. Delaney Ramsey went four-for-five from the serving line and had eight digs. Allyssa Adams had six digs and Kamryn Luedke went three-for-four from the line with one ace and five digs.

“I was proud of how the girls pulled together and competed. A win would have obviously been nice, but it was an excellent opportunity for us to compete and continue to prepare for substate,” Hermreck said.

Brooklyn Jones led Crest in serve-receive passing and notched six digs along.

The Lady Lancers will face off at substate competition Saturday, Oct. 22 at Madison.
