Southern Coffey Co. squads fall short

LE ROY — Southern Coffey County High’s basketball teams ended the 2012 portion of their schedule on a rough note Tuesday.
The Lady Titans fell behind early and never caught up in a 56-43 loss to visiting Marais des Cygnes Valley.
The boys followed much of the same script. Marais des Cygnes led 25-15 after the first half and never looked back in a 50-29 win.
The Trojans led Southern Coffey County 16-10 after one period and 31-22 at the break of the girls contest. The Lady Titans trailed by 13, 43-30, after three quarters.
Martyna Hegwald led the Lady Titans with 13 points, followed by Miranda Alumbaugh with eight and Kalyn Deal and Sarah Webb with seven apiece.
Zarin Goodrich led all scorers for the Trojans with 22 points. Brianna Bogue scored 12 and Andi Bush had 10.

IN THE BOYS contest, SCC trailed 12-8 after one quarter before the Trojans built its lead with a 13-7 second-quarter run. Marais des Cygnes Valley snuffed any hopes of a Titan comeback with a 13-4 run spanning the third quarter.
Josiah Witteman scored 10 points and Tyler Houston eight to lead Southern Coffey County. Aaron True scored seven.
Mark Price’s 15 points led Marais des Cygnes Valley, followed by Wyatt Jordan with 13 and Matt Jones with 11.
The teams can regroup through the Christmas break before resuming play Jan. 4 at home against Waverly.
