Smith sets new UHS record in winning 100-meter high hurdles

OSWEGO — Uniontown High senior Abbie Smith set a new school record in the 100-meter high hurdles Tuesday at the Oswego High Invitational.
Smith won the race in 15.7 seconds. She also won the 300-meter intermediate hurdles in 51.94 seconds and won the gold in the girls’ long  jump with a leap of 17 feet, 2 inches.
Jacy Ermel and Abby Dixon went 1-2 in the javelin. Ermel’s winning throw was 114’ 21⁄2”. Ermel placed second in the shot put and fourth in the discus.
In the 200-meter dash, Ermel was fourth and Lauren Rockhold was fifth. Jessica Schaaf took second in the 3200-meter run and third in the 1600-meter run.
Not to be outdone were the Eagle boys.
Ben Dixon claimed three individual gold medals. He won the long jump with a leap of 19’31⁄2”. Dixon was first in the triple jump at 37’31⁄2” with teammate .
Dixon won the 200-meter dash in 24.57 seconds. He was sixth in the 100-meter dash.
Zach Travis captured first place in the javelin with a distance of 136’6”.
Barry McAnulty placed fourth and Sam George was sixth.
Trenton Miller placed second in the discus and Seth Sympson was sixth. Sympson also was fifth in the high jump and third in the 800-meter run.
Uniontown’s George, McAnulty, Abby Dixon and Miller placed second in the throwers relay.
“This was a good first meet for us. It allowed us to see where we are at and we know we can improve on our marks and times,” said Jackie Hall, UHS track coach.
Uniontown track teams will compete at Frontenac Thursday.
