EL DORADO — A dismal start sank Allen Community College’s women Wednesday.
Host Butler Community College scored the game’s first 16 points and never looked back in an 81-46 victory.
The loss drops Allen to 6-15 overall and 2-9 in Jayhawk Conference action.
The Red Devils started the game with five turnovers and four missed shots before Ashley Washington ended the nearly 8-minute scoring drought with a jumper. Washington’s 3-pointer in the final minute of the first quarter sliced Butler’s lead to 18-5.
Ashley Sally’s 3-pointer and a Rachael Bruce layup capped a brief 8-3 Allen run before Butler ended the half on a 19-5 run.
Zasha Taylor scored six points in the third quarter as Allen outscored Butler 18-12, but the Grizzlies exploded for 29 points in the final quarter.
Washington and Haley Wilson scored high-scoring honors with 8 points each. Ariyah Sorrells and Damonica Franklin both had four rebounds. Sally dished out five assists. Washington also had two steals.
Tamara Lee led the Grizzlies with 19 points.
The Red Devils return home to Allen Gymnasium at 2 p.m. Saturday, where they’ll host Independence.
