Jerrik Sigg, Iola High senior tailback, has a few more yards than the Register reported in Saturday’s record-breaking performance from last Thursday.
The Register found out from IHS head coach Rick Horton that Sigg had 967 yards, instead of 947 as he told the Register Tuesday, going into the final game of the 2011 season.
“I was able to go through the game film from Thursday night and Jerrik had 353 yards on 53 carries, which was 10 more yards than our stats showed,” Horton said Sunday night. It was reported 343 yards on 53 carries.
So Sigg owns the Iola High single-game rushing record of 353 yards on 53 carries supplanting Tyler Ringwald’s 2005 performance of 291 yards on 14 carries. Sigg owns three of the top four single-game performances in IHS history, as known, all coming this season.
Sigg moved to the top of the IHS single-season rushing list. Horton confirmed that Sigg has 1,320 yards for the season. The old mark was 1,286 by Webb Mechling in 1992. Both runners got their yardage in nine games.
Unofficially, Sigg has 1,662 yards for his career but Horton was checking on any missing yardage from Sigg’s freshman and sophomore years not included in this total. Later this week, another story will have the “official” total.
