PARSONS The Iola High junior varsity Fillies tennis team competed in its second meet of the season Tuesday at Parsons.
Freshman Miah Shelby put up a strong showing, finishing third in number one singles with a 2-1 record.
Shelby fell 6-1 to Pittsburgs Sara Perez before beating Labette Countys Lauren Giager and Bernie Bradbury 6-4 and 6-3, respectively.
Junior Allie Fager competed in the number two singles spot and due to a shortage of players, she was only able to compete in two matches. She lost 6-1 to Labettes Danielle Kelley and 6-0 to Pittsburgs Emily Fisher.
The number one doubles team of junior Annika Hobbs and sophomore Jessica Tidd fell 6-2 in the opening match to Labette but rebounded strongly with a 6-1 win over Fort Scott.
They then fell 6-0 to Pittsburg to close out the match, putting them in fourth place overall.
Up next, the varsity Fillies will travel to Independence today to compete at 3 p.m.
