The Iola High volleyball team swept their competition when they hosted Wellsville and Burlington for their Senior Night festivities Tuesday.
The Mustangs (18-9) opened up by defeating Wellsville in three sets followed by a two-set sweep against Burlington. Iola recognized their two seniors, Jackie Fager and Leeann Maloney, before the final match.
“Jackie and Leeann have done a great job throughout their four years. They’re the best teammates anyone could have, maintaining a positive attitude when things aren’t necessarily going right,” said Iola head coach Amanda Holman. “They show up, work hard and don’t take a day off.”
Iola took down Wellsville in three sets, 25-14, 23-25 and 25-16.
Reese Curry went for a team-high 11 kills while Alana Mader added 10 kills. Curry also led from the serving line, going for a team-high three aces. On defense, Mader notched a team-high six blocks while Lily Lohman had four.
“I think we’re a team nobody wants to play at this point,” said Holman. “If they’re going to get it from us they’re going to have to work for it. We can be scary good at times.”
Elza Clift led the Mustangs with a team-high 20 digs while Kaysin Crusinbery and Mader each had 10 digs. Crusinbery had another impressive night in terms of assists, going for a team-high 24.
The Mustangs took down Burlington, 25-14 and 25-19.
Iola’s Curry had a team-high eight kills while Mader had six. Curry led from the serving line with a team-high four aces. Defensively, Mader had a team-high four blocks.
“If Reese (Curry) gets an open look, it’s going down,” said Holman. “And Alana (Mader) sees the floor so well that she can strategically place it out of reach. They both bring great strengths.”
Clift had a team-high 16 digs while Curry added 10. Crusinbery notched a team-high 20 assists.
The Mustangs travel to Anderson County Saturday for a 9 a.m. tournament.
