CHANUTE — Iola Swim Team’s Seahorses ended the summer season competing at the 2011 SEK Swim League Championships Saturday. The league swim meet was held at Chanute’s Maring Aquatic Center.
Iola had 33 swimmers competing in the meet. Swimmers are divided into time divisions — A and B — for races.
LeeRoi Johnson was second overall in the A Division of the 9-10-year-old boys’ competition. Fryendz Wallace and Tyler Holloway placed in the top 10, fourth and sixth respectively, in the 13-14-year-old boys’ A Division while Emma Piazza finished fifth in the 13-14-year-old girls’ A Division.
Elise Wolf was sixth overall and Della Lohman was 10th in the 11-12-year-old girls’ A Division. Guiseppe Mangrella was 10th in the 7-8-year-old boys’ A Division.
Iola two “senior” swimmers, Autumn Snesrud and Michelle Britt, concluded their swim league careers Saturday. Snesrud was 10th overall in the 15-18-year-old girls’ A Division while Britt was 14th. Snesrud was also 14th in the B Division rankings.
“We really thank Autumn and Michelle for all their years of hard work on the team. They are examples of what I want all our swimmers to become,” said Emma Gilmore, Iola Swim Team head coach. “Autumn and Michelle have been great leaders.”
Jo Lohman ended up second in the 13-14-year-old girls’ B Division. Iola had four boys finish in the top 10 of the 13-14-year-old boys’ B Division led by Colten Storrer in fourth followed by Cole Cescon in fifth, Blaine Klubek in eighth and Tyler Holloway in ninth.
Karly McGuffin was fourth and Megan Klubek was sixth in the 11-12-year-old girls’ B Division competition. Autumn Johnson placed fifth in the 9-10-year-old girls’ B Division.
In the A Division, Independence captured the team title with 2,799 points with Fort Scott in second with 2,758 points. Iola’s Seahorses finished sixth in the eight-team league meet with 1,015.50 points. Humboldt was eighth with 736 points.
Coffeyville won the B Division team title with 1,531.50 points with Fort Scott in second place with 1.443 points. Iola placed seventh in this division with 629 points and Humboldt was fifth with 847 points.
