HIGHLAND — Scoreless spans to open each half of Monday’s Jayhawk Eastern Division game put Allen County Community College’s Red Devils in catch-up mode.
They never caught up and lost 64-56 to host Highland Community College’s Scotties.
“We just couldn’t get going,” said Sacha Santimano, ACCC women’s head coach. “They (Highland) started the game on a 9-0 run and we were playing catch up all night.”
Santimano said the Scotties, who led 34-28 at the break, opened the second half on an 11-0 run. She said the Red Devils are constantly trying to come back and get tried at the end of games.
“We have to put two halves together to be successful and tonight just was not the case,” Santimano said.
The loss put the Red Devils at 1-11 in the conference and 3-20 overall. Allen County hosts Coffeyville Wednesday for a 6 p.m. tipoff.
The Allen County men lost their fifth game in a row, 73-62 to Highland. No details or statistics were made available to the Register by deadline.
The ACCC men are 2-10 in Jayhawk East play and 5-18 overall. They face ninth-ranked Coffeyville Wednesday at home.
Allen County’s women were led by Queona Walker with 24 points and four steals. Walker hit four of Allen County’s seven three-point field goals. Jazmynn Johnson pulled down eight rebounds and Maurissa Shaffer dished out five assists.
