HIGHLAND — Allen Community College’s Red Devils came up empty in Jayhawk Conference volleyball play Wednesday.

The Red Devils battled host Highland Community College’s Scotties in a four-set match. Highland won 25-23, 25-22, 15-25, 25-23.

“Allen showed up for the start of each set and had the momentum, earning points,” said Jessica Peters, ACC head coach. “Playing at our level, Highland made mistakes. Then we’d allow a point run by them and drop our level of play.”

Allen had to make some adjustments going into the match because sophomore Haley Mertens sprained her ankle in practice on Monday. Mertens played but not wasn’t effective all the way around.

Mertens put down 12 kills to lead the net attack. Sidney Keith delivered 10 kills, had one solo block and five assisted blocks.

Sierra Morgison and Kaitlyn Speer each had two solo blocks at the net. Mertens had one solo block and three assisted blocks.

Jacqui Ortiz was credited with 14 set assists and Adriee Munoz had 12 set assists.

Sarah Charbonneau came up with 15 digs and Ortiz had 10 digs.

At the service line, Munoz and Charbonneau each had two ace serves. Keith and Ortiz had one ace apiece.

The Red Devils host Northeastern Oklahoma of Miami, Okla., Friday. First serve is at 6:30 p.m. in the ACC gym.
