SCCH girls, Crest boys win

LE ROY – Southern Coffey County High’s Lady Titans and Crest High’s Lancers claimed season-opening wins Thursday.
The Lady Titans rolled to a 51-13 victory over visiting Crest High’s Lady Lancers. The Lancers defeated the hosting Titans 41-27.
“We were pleased with the overall effort for the first game of the season,” said Jeff True, SCCH girls’ head coach. “The girls did a good job on the boards, limiting Crest to just one shot attempt per trip.”
The Lady Titans were up 31-6 at halftime. The teams played under a running clock in the fourth quarter.
Ashton Isch led Southern Coffey County with 22 points, five steals and four assists. Breanna Isch added 11 points plus pulled 10 rebounds and made five steals. Sarah Webb scored 10 points.
Katrina Strickler had six points for Crest.
In a two-quarter girls’ junior varsity game, Southern Coffey County won 14-12 led by Miranda Alumbaugh with six points.
For the Lancers, separation came in the second quarter. Crest led Southern Coffey County 7-6 after one period then had a 17-10 run.
“The second quarter was huge for us. We knocked down some shots and were able to get a little separation,” said Travis Hermreck, Lancer head coach.
Crest stretched its 24-16 halftime lead in the second half.
Jordon Morton paced the Lancers with 17 points and two steals. Kyle Hammond added 16 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Hammond and Jayden Bowen each had four assists.
Scott Fischer scored 10 points for the Titans.
Crest is in Humboldt High’s tournament next week. Southern Coffey County goes to Madison Tuesday.
