LE ROY — A mid-game uprising from the Burlingame High Bearcats proved to be too much for the Southern Coffey County High Titans Friday night — they were edged out 26-24 in Le Roy.
After punching out quick scores in the first half, the Titans went up 16-0 against their opponent. Then things started to turn around.
“Fundamentally, we really broke down in our blocking and tackling,” Head Coach Korey Lankton said.
The Bearcats responded with 20 unanswered points in the second and third quarters. Despite a third-quarter response from the Titans, it wasn’t enough.
“They had a lot of momentum,” Lankton said.
The Titan offensive line struggled to make adjustments against a frequent blitz from their opponent, and that was all she wrote.
“We just didn’t pick it up,” he said.
SCC rushed for 133 yards, and passed for 55. Both teams racked up 10 penalties apiece.
Walker Harred led the Titans in rushing with 105 yards on 18 rushes, followed by Chism Newkirk with 25 yards on seven rushes. Josiah Witteman led in receptions with three catches for 33 yards. Defensively, Newkirk totaled six solo tackles, followed by Harred, Witteman and Brier Johnson with four each.
