UNIONTOWN — Southern Coffey County High’s Lady Titans came up just short of a tournament championship Saturday, dropping the title match to Central Heights, 26-24, 26-24. MARMATON VALLEY, meanwhile, went 3-2 on the day. In addition to the loss to SCC, the Wildcats defeated Field Kindley of Coffeyville, 25-11, 25-16, behind Tapanga Turner’s five points, Kaysha Elmenhorst’s seven and Mackenzie Tynon with five points and six kills.
The loss did little to erase the Lady Titans’ quality of play, head coach Jeff True said.
Southern Coffey County won its other matches, defeating Riverton, 18-25, 25-16, 25-17, Marmaton Valley, 25-23, 25-20, Coffeyville, 25-13, 25-12, and Northeast-Arma, 25-9, 25-18.
“I was very proud of the girls,” True said. “We had some close matches early in the day in pool play that we were able to win.
“We played as well as we’ve played all year, especially late in the day,” he continued. “We passed the ball with a lot more consistency, and played well as a team.”
Breanna Isch led the way with 32 kills and 11 blocks, while Chenae Newkirk had 28 assists. Amanda Sherwood had 23 assists, Connie Lyda had 46 digs and Amber Emmons had eight aces.
The Lady Titans served at a 90-percent clip for the tournament.
