YATES CENTER — Southern Coffey County High’s girls saw their three-game winning streak to start the 2012-13 season come to a halt Friday evening.
The Lady Titans “played hard,” head coach Jeff True said. “We just ran into a tough Cherryvale team.”
The Chargers roared out of the gates in a 49-22 win in the championship of Yates Center’s Wildcat Winter Classic.
Cherryvale led 16-4 after one quarter and 26-10 at halftime. The Lady Titans could not close the gap in the third quarter, trailing 38-20. Cherryvale closed the contest with an 11-2 spurt.
Sarah Webb led Southern Coffey County with eight points and nine rebounds. Breanna Isch added eight rebounds. Amber Emmons had two steals. Emmons and Isch both had four points. Miranda Alumbaugh, Kalyn Deal and Martyna Hegwald scored two points apiece.
Jasi Adkinson scored 14 to lead Cherryvale, followed by Katelynn Main with 13 and Josie Reilly with 10.
“We had a hard time getting our shots to fall, and could never really get on track offensively,” True said.
Southern Coffey County hosts Madison Tuesday.
