The Southern Coffey County boys won a close 59-53 contest and the girls were blown out 54-25 Tuesday at Waverly in their first Lyon County League game.
The win moves the boys to 4-1 on the season while the girls fall to 3-2 overall.
The Titan boys got off to a strong start, taking a 14-8 lead at the end of the first quarter.
The Bulldogs bounced back and played Southern Coffey County within a point in the second quarter but still found themselves down seven at the half.
A 20-15 third quarter pushed the Titans to a 12-point lead with the score at 48-36 heading into the fourth quarter. Waverly had a strong fourth- quarter push, outscoring the Titans 17-11, but there was just too much for the Bulldogs to overcome.
Senior Dawson Leimkuhler continued his early-season tear, scoring a game-high 24 points. Senior Jett Harvey had 16 and senior Kolgan Ohl had 14. Junior Cooper Harred had six, junior Jonathan Borntreger had four and sophomore Noah Borntreger had three.
THE LADY Titans held up fairly well in the second half but it was the first half that put them into a hole that they were unable to crawl out of.
After a 14-6 first quarter for Waverly, the Lady Bulldogs buried Southern Coffey County with a 21-4 second quarter to go up 35-10 at the half.
The Lady Titans came out and matched Waverly 8-8 in the third quarter but got outscored 11-7 in the fourth quarter to close out the loss.
Junior Bryli Copeland had six points, senior Haven Harvey and sophomore Emersyn Hal each had four, Crystal Alumbaugh and Reed Szambecki each had three, sophomore Kyra Ohl had two points and senior Braelyn Falls, sophomore Taryn Lather and senior Jordyn Stone each had one.
