Southern Coffey County opened up the Lyon County League Basketball Tournament with losses on Monday.
The Titan boys lost to Olpe 58-50 while the girls fell to Waverly 45-35. The boys fall to 6-6 while the girls move to 5-7.
The SCC boys had lost to Olpe in a close 52-48 game earlier in the season. Mondays game reflected the same challenges as then. The Titans trailed by just two after a quarter and went into halftime tied at 25.
Olpe came out of the half firing and outscored SCC 2-to-1 to take a seven-point lead heading into the fourth quarter. The surge woke the Titans offense back up in the fourth, but they were unable to overcome the deficit to close out the game.
Senior Kolgan Ohl had a big 25 points to lead all scorers followed by 12 for senior Dawson Leimkuhler.
Senior Jonathan Borntreger had six, senior Jett Harvey had four and junior Cooper Harred scored three.
THE LADY Titans had already lost by 30 to Waverly and while Mondays loss was better, it still wasnt close.
SCC scored single digits in four quarters including eight points total in the first half against 24 points scored by the Lady Bulldogs.
Waverly pushed its lead to 20 in the third quarter and a nine-point fourth quarter from the Lady Titans kept the game from getting further out of hand.
Junior Reed Szambecki had nine points followed by five for senior Haven Harvey, four for sophomore Emersyn Hall, three for sophomore Kyra Ohl and two for junior Bryli Copeland.
Action resumes on Thursday. The girls will play Lebo at 4 p.m. while the boys will play Hartford at 5:30 p.m.
