FORT SCOTT — Allen Community College’s baseball team continues to tally up the miles as its season-long road trip continues.

On Thursday, the Red Devils ventured east to take on Fort Scott.

Allen had things well in hand in the opener, pounding out a 13-3 victory, but fell behind early in a 15-1 loss in the finale.

The split comes two days after ACC dropped a pair of heartbreakers at Coffeyville, losing 14-10-and 4-3.

Allen (20-8) is scheduled to play its next “home” games this afternoon against Fort Scott at the Humboldt Sports Complex while work continues on installing artificial turf at the ACC baseball diamond.

The Red Devils took control over Fort Scott with a four-run third inning and a six-run fifth.

After Damon Burroughs opened the scoring with a two-run blast in the first, Allen scored single runs in the second and third innings on a pair of passed balls. Josh Prinner’s two-run double in the third pushed ACC ahead 6-2. Levi Bennett’s RBI single scored Prinner.

Bennett made it 8-3 with an RBI single in the sixth. Another run scored on a wild pitch, and Alec Roberts drove in a run after he was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Colton Patterson then unloaded the bases with a three-run double to cap the scoring.

Trey Jordan picked up the win, with three strikeouts in eight innings. He allowed eight hits. Slade Renfrow struck out four in two scoreless innings of relief.

Burroughs had Allen’s only home run, while Patterson and Prinner both had doubles. Bennett and Roberts both singled twice.

ALLEN trailed 2-1 after 3½ innings in the finale before the wheels came off the proverbial wagon. The Greyhounds scored three times in the fourth to lead 5-1, then ended all drama with an eight-run sixth.

Prinner scored the Red Devils’ only run on a wild pitch in the second.

Bennett went 3-for-3 with a double. Roberts had Allen’s only other hit against Fort Scott hurler Charlie Bell, who struck out 15 ACC batters in seven innings.

Alex Belch took the loss, giving up one walk and striking out four batters in 1 1/3 innings. He also walked five. Patrick Babcock, Garrett Prowell and Brandon Majerus combined to allow nine hits with three strikeouts in relief.
