With high school sports in full swing, the Register announces its September candidates for Allen County Area Athletes of the Month.
Jack Adams The Iola Mustangs number-one runner has been in fine form to start the 2019 season. Adams finished first individually in meets at Anderson County and Parsons. Most recently, Adams secured second place in Iolas solo home meet of the season. The reigning Pioneer League champion is showing no signs of slowing down in 2019.
Conor Haviland After earning first-team All-State selection in 2018 as a running back, this season Haviland has taken over duties under center. Haviland has been an unstoppable force on the ground for the Cubs through the first three games of the season. Most recently, Haviland helped lead the Cubs back to victory against Eureka after trailing by 10 points with less than two minutes left to play.
Isaac Badders When the Mustangs have looked for answers offensively, Badders has been able to provide a spark. Badders starts at running back and linebacker for the Mustangs, and is doing all he can to help the Mustangs turn their season around from an 0-3 start.
Rachel Bycroft Head coach Marv Smith was looking for answers when the Fillies lost their top-three runner from a season ago, and Bycroft has fulfilled his request. Bycroft has cemented herself as Iolas number-one runner, and is coming off a third place finish at Iolas Doc Stiles Invitational meet.
Taylor Jacobs Jacobs has been an absolute force for the Lady Cats this season, picking up right where she left off in 2018. Through the first 15 games in 2019, Jacobs has accumulated 31 aces, 133 kills, 30 blocks, and 123 digs. If the Wildcats look to make a deep run in the playoffs, Jacobs will be the individual leading the way.
Bailey Griffith Stamina and will define Griffiths game, who showcases her ability every time she steps on the hardwood. On Saturday at the Humboldt volleyball tournament, Griffith racked up 20 kills and 10 blocks.
