Regional seedings set in Class 2-1A

Marmaton Valley High and Humboldt High host Kansas Class 2-1A Regional Softball Tournaments next week. The Lady Cubs are veterans at hosting while this is the Wildcats’ first time to hold a regional.
The two area schools are hosting the semifinals and championship games on Tuesday. The tournaments open Monday with first-round games at higher-seeded teams’ home fields.
At Moran, Jayhawk-Linn High earned the No. 1 spot seeded at 14-5. Chetopa (12-6) is the No. 2 seed. Both earned first-round byes.
Pittsburg St. Mary’s Colgan (7-11) is No. 3  and Oswego earned the No. 4 seed at 7-13.
Marmaton Valley’s Wildcats (6-12) are fifth-seeded. They travel to Oswego Monday to play at 5:30 p.m. The winner of the game plays Jayhawk-Linn at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Moran.
Sixth-seeded St. Paul (5-10) goes to Pittsburg-Colgan on Monday. The winner plays Chetopa at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday in Moran.
The championship game is at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday. All games Tuesday will be played at Moran City Park.

HUMBOLDT’S regional has Elk Valley (13-4) as the top-seeded team. Humboldt (10-10) earned the second seed.  West Elk (8-11) is the No. 3 seed.
Those three have first round byes, adding a mark in the win column for each team.
Humboldt plays West Elk at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday in a semifinal.
Yates Center High’s Wildcats (1-19) are seeded No. 4. They host fifth-seeded Altoona Midway (0-20) at 5:30 p.m. Monday.
The winner takes on Elk Valley at 3 p.m. Tuesday. The championship game is at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. All games Tuesday are at Manion Field at Humboldt’s Sweatt Park.
Yates Center is the defending regional champion. The Wildcats lost in the first round of the 2010 Kansas Class 2-1A Softball State Tournament.
Up for grabs in each of these area regional tournaments are berths in the 2011 Kansas Class 2-1A Softball State Tournament to be played May 27-28 in Emporia.
