Red Devils win home series against North Iowa Area CC

The Allen baseball team finished off their three-game home series against North Iowa Area Community College on Monday with a walk-off RBI single off the bat of Braden Hendrix in the bottom of the 12th inning.

The Allen Community College baseball team won a three-game series when they hosted North Iowa Area Community College on Sunday and Monday. 

The Red Devils (4-7) won the backend pair of games with final scores of 6-5. Allen dropped their first game to the Trojans, 6-1, on Sunday morning.

Game one

North Iowa Area CC tossed a combined no-hitter in the first game with Ben Rosin, Jacob Crissinger and Cooper Mollett teaming up to throw seven innings of hitless ball. 

The Red Devils brought their lone run of the game across in the bottom of the first. 

Allen’s Cale Clark allowed a solo home run to Alex Berreth in the top of the second inning. Later, Bret Buchanan was ripped for five runs against him including an Adam Berghult three-run blast in the fifth.  

Clark allowed one run and one hit while striking out three through 1.2 innings of work. Buchanan let the game get out of hand in the third inning, allowing four runs on five hits with four strikeouts. 

Rosin got the win for the Trojans with his four innings of hitless ball while allowing a lone run with four walks and two strikeouts. 

Game two 

Allen waited until the final two innings for their bats to come alive in the second game after heading to the bottom of the sixth trailing, 5-0. Red Devil John James allowed the Trojans to score five runs through the first four innings before being pulled. Jack Neill came on in relief. 

North Iowa Area CC’s Bennett McCollow knocked in three runs on only one swing and Brayden Hellum drove in another run in the leadoff spot. 

Ethan Nissen was able to get a hold of Trojan pitcher John Lyman in the sixth inning when he drove in two runs with one swing of the bat. Red Devils Carson Shepherd, Brandon Harper and Gage Stark then drove in one run apiece in the final innings.

Allen was credited with five hits against North Iowa CC’s eight hits. 

The Red Devils got a hold of North Iowa Area pitcher Carson Munoz for three runs and Jake Gonse for one run following Lyman’s two innings on the mound. Allen’s Neill was credited with the win after working the final 3.1 innings and not allowing a run on only one hit. 

Allen hung on for the 6-5 victory.
