DODGE CITY — Allen County Community College’s Red Devils are living out of their suitcases right now. They were in Pratt for two games Saturday and two more at Dodge City Sunday.
Today, the ACCC softball team is in Concordia for a doubleheader against Cloud County Community College.
The good news so far is they are 4-0 on the road trip. They’ll be play at home Tuesday.
With the sweep of both doubleheaders over the weekend, the Red Devils are firmly in third place in both the Jayhawk Eastern Division (19-5) and in NJCAA Region VI, Division II action (21-5). They improved to 34-18 overall.
The Red Devils host Labette Community College of Parsons Tuesday. First pitch is at 2 p.m. at the ACCC softball field.
They wrap up their regular season at home Saturday against Hesston. Then they await playoff pairings and will host a playoff series May 1.
On Saturday at Pratt, Lenzie Boring threw a one-hitter as Allen County won 1-0 over Pratt Community College. Boring walked three and struck out 12.
Allen County scored the only run, an unearned run, in the first inning. Shawna Blakesely, Amy Carr and Jenna Sigg each reached on Pratt errors to get the run in.
Blakesley doubled in the third for ACCC’s first hit of the game. Carr and Sigg each had a single. Boring’s only hit given up was a single in the fourth inning.
Allen County and Pratt went nine innings to decide the second game. The Red Devils won 2-1.
Both teams scored a run in the seventh inning. Autumn Lamle doubled in ACCC’s seventh and Carr went in to run. A one-out walk was issued to Kristina Popejoy then Denise Swanson had a fielder’s choice. Kylie Taylor singled home the run.
Pratt took advantage of a single, two walks and an ACCC error to tie the game up in the bottom of the seventh.
Allen County’s Carr singled to open the ninth. Callie Umholtz was safe on a fielder’s choice and Popejoy had a sacrifice bunt. Swanson’s base hit brought in the go-ahead run.
Boring, who came on in relief of starter Brianne Campbell, worked her second straight 1-2-3 inning to end the game. Boring got the win and gave up one walk plus struck out two.
Campbell worked 62⁄3 innings, allowing one run on five hits and two walks with one strikeout.
Swanson had two singles for ACCC. Lamle doubled. Hitting a single each were Blakesley, Carr and Taylor.
Allen County hits 16 hits to score 13 runs to win 13-5 in the first game of two Sunday at Dodge City. The game went just five innings.
Boring got the win on the mound as she went four innings, giving up one run on three hits and a walk. She struck out six. Amy McAfee pitched one inning and gave up four runs on four hits and struck out two.
Allen County led 6-1 when it scored seven runs in the fifth. Blakesley doubled twice and singled for ACCC.
Sigg had a two-run home run in the fourth and a single. Carr and Umholtz had two singles. Boring and Taylor each had a single and a double. Lamle doubled. Brandi Hutcheson and Kassie Summers had a single each.
Allen County built a 10-1 lead through 41⁄2 innings. It was a good thing because Dodge City scored 10 runs in the fifth. Allen County won 20-11 in six innings.
Campbell went 31⁄3 innings, allowing one run on four hits and one walk. McAfee worked one inning, giving up 10 runs on six hits and three walks and struck out three. Boring pitched 12⁄3 innings, giving up one hit and striking out four.
Blakesley was 5-for-5 with five base hits. Lamle hit a three-run home run in the first and a solo shot in the third. Sigg had a two-run home run in the fifth.
Swanson connected for three base hits. Umholtz, Popejoy, Taylor and Kelci Owens each had two singles. Hitting a single each were Megan Dillow, Kelsey Walters and Chalice Schmollinger.
