Allen County Community College’s Red Devils have had a strong start to the 2010 baseball season. A 4-1 start is impressive but even more so since the Red Devils have played all five games on the road.
On Sunday, the Red Devils swept a pair of games against host Rose State Community College at Midwest City, Okla. Allen County won 7-4 in nine innings then rolled to a 13-2 win in five innings.
Allen County travels to Seminole, Okla., Thursday to play a nine-inning game against Seminole State College.
The Red Devils open at home Saturday with a doubleheader against Brown Mackie. First pitch is 1 p.m. at Red Devil Field.
Allen County has Iowa Western coming to Iola Sunday for a single nine-inning game. The game starts at 1 p.m.
They play Evangel College’s junior varsity at home at 3 p.m. March 11.
Then they open Jayhawk Eastern Division play at Coffeyville March 13 and come home for conference doubleheaders against Cowley County March 16 and Highland March 19.
Against Rose State, the Red Devils scored single runs in the first, third, sixth and seventh innings to lead 4-1. Rose State scored three runs on two hits and three Red Devil errors in seventh to tie the game.
Wyatt Hall singled to lead off the Red Devil ninth inning. Bretton Ater and Marcus Peavler had bunt singles to load the bases.
Connor McCrite and Curtis Bunch each drove in a run on fielder’s choices. Michael Schell drew a walk and McCrite came in to score.
Aaron Burke and the Red Devil defense got Rose State to go quickly. He faced four batters to record the three outs for the win. Burke pitched three innings, allowing three runs on two hits and three walks. He struck out four.
David Ormiston started and went three innings, allowing one run on two hits and had five strikeouts. Kyle Grana pitched two innings of scoreless baseball with one hit, two walks. Bryan Couch had one inning of scoreless work with one hit and three strikeouts.
McCrite had a single and a double while Peavler, Bunch and Schell each had two singles. Riley Price doubled. Hitting a single each were Ater, Brayden Brumley and Hall.

Matt Stalcup started and worked three innings of one-hit, scoreless baseball. He walked one and struck out six.
Mark Thompson, who got the win, went 11⁄3 innings, allowing two runs on one hit and three walks. He struck out four. Cody Wren pitched 2⁄3 inning and gave up one hit, walked one and struck out one batter.
Ben Lawson pounded out three hits. Hitting two singles each were Ater, Peavler, McCrite, Ryan Fike, Schell, Michael Samuel and Bryce Williams. Cameron Renfro had a hit.
Allen County opened the 2010 season with a 3-0 loss to host North Central Texas. The Red Devils swept Murray State in Tishomingo, Okla., 11-0 and 12-7.
