Red Devils sweep Ravens

Allen Community College’s Red Devils broke out black uniforms with pink lettering and pink socks Tuesday. The Red Devil softball team won in the pink at home.

The Red Devils improved to 10-16 in Jayhawk Eastern Division play with a sweep of visiting Coffeyville Community College. Allen won 2-0 and 11-2 in five innings.

Keelyn Bonar limited the Red Ravens to two hits in the opener. She walked two batters and struck out six.

Allen scored single runs in the second and third innings. That 2-0 lead stood up for the win.

In the second inning, Kaylee Lucas singled and Lauren Poertner reached on a bunt. Taylor Easum and Paige Rothwell had back-to-back singles to drive in the run.

With one out in the third inning, Maecy Charleston was safe on an error but was retired on a fielder’s choice by Alex Hill. Hill stole second and scored on an error.

Lucas led Allen’s offense with two singles. Hitting a single each were Rothwell, Erin Schwant, Ashley Ribelin, Poertner and Easum.

Hill tossed a three-hitter in the 11-2 victory in the second game. Hill recorded four strikeouts.

Allen pounded out 13 hits in the game. The Red Devils had four hits and took advantage of two Coffeyville errors to score three runs in the second inning.

In a six-run third, the Red Devils had six hits and Coffeyville made one error. They produced two more runs on three hits in the fourth inning.

Coffeyville scored twice in the third inning.

Lucas and Hill were 3-for-3 at the plate. Lucas had two singles and a double and Hill hit three singles. Kayla Van Vliet and Easum had two singles apiece. Rothwell, Schwant and Bonar had a single each.

Allen is 27-24 overall. It plays at Ottawa University today and hosts Butler on Thursday.
